How does an instant rebate work?
You will receive an instant discount off the cost of the product. When purchasing one of the 9 featured products in-store at any of the participating retailers, the instant rebate will be in effect from April 1 through to May 2, 2010.
Who can participate?
All residents in Ontario are invited to participate.
How many instant rebates per household or per family?
There is no limit to the number of instant rebates you are eligible for over the course of the campaign but there is a limit of 5 instant rebates per 5 products of the same type at any one time purchase.
How many products can I buy at once?
You are able to purchase up to 5 packages of each product type at once. Then one instant rebate per product would apply, up to 5 instant rebates for up to 5 products of the same type.
For all of the rebated products, up to 5 packages of each product type can be purchased at once. You could then use one instant rebate per product, using up to 5 instant rebates to buy up to 5 products of the same type.
Does the instant rebate apply to items on sale?
Yes, the instant rebate applies to items on sale. Remember though that the instant rebate can only be applied to products whose price (before tax) is more than the value of the rebate.
Can I combine the Power Savings Event instant rebate with other existing offers?
You may use the Power Savings Event instant rebate with in-store discounts but not with manufacturers’ coupons or offers.
Can I use the instant rebate on products I already purchased?
No, the rebates are only valid from April 1 to May 2, 2010.
If I want to return the products, do I get the full retail price?
No. If you return an item that had its price lowered using an instant rebate then you will only be refunded the amount that you paid.
What if I lose my receipt? Can I get an in-store credit?
This is subject to each retailer/manufacturer policy. Talk to them directly to learn more.
Do I have to fill out any forms or sign anything?
There’s nothing to sign and there are no forms to fill out. Just visit your participating retailer to enjoy the savings.
What if the product I buy doesn't work, or stops working?
Simply contact the retailer or manufacturer of the product directly through their website or just call their head office. Return policies do vary, depending on the manufacturer.
What is the refund policy for the Power Savings Event?
Each retailer has their own return policy. For specific information, please contact the retailer from whom you purchased your product.
Who pays for the discounts?
The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) funds the discounts for this event.
Do I have to pay tax on the products I buy?
Yes, you have to pay taxes on the original purchase price of the product.
Do I have to pay tax on the discounted price or the original price?
You will pay tax on the original price. The discount will be taken off the product after the tax is calculated.
How long does this Power Savings Event last?
The Spring 2010 Power Savings Event runs until Sunday, May 2, 2010.
What's the last day I can buy products with an instant rebate?
Sunday, May 2, 2010 is the last day to take advantage of these terrific savings.
My local retailer sold out of products within the first two weeks. Why didn't they order more in advance if he knew about the Power Savings Event?
We have worked with retailers and manufacturers very closely to ensure an adequate supply of products. However, due to the long lead time in acquiring some of these products, and the high demand in the marketplace, some may run out. We encourage you to visit another participating retailer or wait until your preferred retailer re-stocks.
Will rain checks be available on out of stock products?
It is the up to each individual retailer to decide if their store will offer rain checks. If your retailer does offer rain checks, they must be used before May 2, 2010.
Why didn't retailers know about the Power Savings Event in advance?
Retailers were notified about the Power Savings Event as soon as it was confirmed and have been preparing for it to hit the marketplace. This does not mean that all of the staff at all of the stores will be aware of the Program or its details. There are hundreds of stores participating in the 2010 Power Savings Event, and each has tens, if not hundreds, of employees.
